Myrsky Energia built its sustainability programme based on a double materiality assessment

Myrsky Energia chose IR Partners as its partner in building the company’s sustainability programme and roadmap. As a renewable energy company, Myrsky Energia aimed to develop an ambitious programme that would reflect its vision of building a better tomorrow, powered by the wind and the sun.

To ensure a comprehensive perspective on sustainability and incorporate stakeholder expectations, Myrsky Energia decided to base the programme on a double materiality assessment. While the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) did not yet impose a legal requirement for the company, the methodology offered a strong foundation for shaping the programme.

The assessment enabled the identification of the most material sustainability topics across the company’s operations and value chain. Final targets and KPIs were defined through a series of intensive workshops involving both Myrsky’s experts and management. In addition, the company refined its sustainability governance structure and created a roadmap to align each sustainability theme with relevant plans, policies and actions.

“We chose to conduct a double materiality assessment as part of defining our sustainability programme, knowing from the outset that it would be a time-consuming process. The comprehensive approach allowed us to identify the most essential sustainability topics for our business. It was particularly important for us to listen to and take into account the expectations of our stakeholders. We’ve been very pleased with the collaboration – and especially appreciated IR Partners’ structured and clear process for defining double materiality, as well as their ability to drive the project forward with purpose.” — Annmarie Kallström, Project and Sustainability Development Manager, Myrsky Energia

The sustainability program developed in collaboration with IR Partners was designed to be clearly communicated and easily accessible; it can be found on Myrsky’s website.
